Have you ever wondered why your game has deteriorated?
Many people forget why they even play golf. Whether it is to socialize with friends, enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, get away from the daily grind, enjoying some healthy competition, pursuing a dream, setting a personal goal - don’t loose sight of having fun.
If you’re highly motivated or a perfectionist, the first step is to realize that your attitude might not be as affective as you think. There is such a thing as working too hard in sports.
One might think that beating balls on the range for hours and hours would cure the slow (yet, sometimes fast) degradation into the double-digit handicap land but take the time, and step outside of the box. Look to see where you are. Smell the air. Listen to wildlife. You are one of the lucky ones to experience this.
Now, this is the important part... the biggest reason you get in your own way and underperform is that you so badly want to succeed. Fear of failure is like a thorn in your side not allowing you to focus fully on your performance.
Next time you’re on the course just remember; trying too hard to peak perform can actually slow you down because you make more errors. Some of the best athletes have learned how to perform with a feeling of ease - in essence, trying less. This goes along with being aware of your surroundings.
Don’t forget, it’s only a game...
